I am the engineer who specifies this grade, and the 1609 is the reinforced medium-heavy strap I put forward when a buyer has outgrown the light 1608 but does not yet need our 19 mm class. It is built 16 mm wide and 0.9 mm thick, at a rated 5,760 N break strength and 9%–13% elongation. The engineering brief was to raise load capacity without losing flexibility: a thicker reinforced body delivers higher tensile and pressure resistance, while retaining enough ductility to avoid the brittle fracture that over-hardened straps suffer under impact. For cotton bales, medium pallets and industrial finished goods — where the load is significant but the surface must stay intact — this is the grade I sign off.
A 1609 coil from the line. The thickened 0.9 mm body carries the higher tensile rating, while the 16 mm face spreads load pressure evenly across the unit.
Key FeaturesWhen a buyer moves up from a light strap, the failure mode I watch for is brittleness. It is easy to raise tensile by hardening the polymer, but a hard strap snaps under impact instead of stretching to absorb it. The 1609 is specified the other way: reinforced for capacity, yet ductile enough to survive handling and transport shock. On cotton bales specifically, the strap has to resist the spring-back of a compressed bale while spreading pressure over a soft, fibrous face — the 16 mm reinforced body does both. For loads beyond this grade, I would move you to the 19 mm to 25 mm class; for medium-heavy work on finished goods and mid-size pallets, this is my recommendation.
Extrusion and draw are controlled on every run so the reinforced tensile rating and the elongation window stay inside spec, coil after coil.

For programmes still standardised on steel, this is the technical comparison I give buyers:
| Property | PET Strap (1609) | Steel Strap |
|---|---|---|
| Corrosion | Rust-free; no staining of goods | Rusts; can mark and bleed |
| Operator Safety | No sharp edges; no recoil hazard | Sharp edges; high-energy recoil |
| Surface Effect | Wide face resists cutting/denting loads | Narrow edge cuts and dents |
| Weight | Light; lower freight and handling load | Heavy; higher freight and injury risk |
| End-of-life | Recyclable polymer | Scrap metal handling and freight |
Net result: the same holding function with lower freight, lower injury exposure and an intact goods surface.
ApplicationsSpecified for cotton bales and medium-heavy industrial bundling — industrial finished products, medium pallets, building material bundles, hardware workpieces, bulk cargo and medium-weight logistics goods. It is a classic enhanced pallet-bundling grade for reinforcing operations that have outgrown light strap.
The 1609 holding a medium pallet: the reinforced body maintains tension without loosening, and the wide face keeps the load square.
Quality ControlEvery batch is released against the same measured checks, because export QA is a data question, not a declaration:
The documentation behind this grade is auditable. This product is manufactured by Xiangyang Suhai Machinery Equipment Co., Ltd., founded February 2011 in Hubei, China, and recognised as a National High-Tech Enterprise (Certificate No. GR202442006492, issued 26 December 2024, valid for three years). The company was selected for Hubei Province's 7th batch of Specialised, Refined, Differentiated and Innovative SMEs. Manufacturing is certified under quality, environmental and occupational health & safety management systems, and products are supported by SGS test reports — the file overseas buyers require for customs clearance, supply-chain audits and end-customer compliance review. Certificate copies and test reports are available on request.
Supply, Customization & LogisticsOur complete PET strapping lines deliver a stable 3,000 tons/month, supporting large-volume and long-term repeat programmes; small trial orders are accepted against a 5 ton MOQ. Customisation covers colour, surface texture, roll length and weight, and printed logo. Each roll is wrapped in waterproof film and packed in reinforced export cartons with good compression and drop resistance for container or full-truck shipment. Pre-sales load matching and free sample testing are provided, with after-sales equipment-adaptation guidance and packaging-stability support.
Rolls are packed in reinforced export cartons and unitised on pallets — protected against compression and drop shock for international transit.
Wound on a 250 mm core with uniform geometry, the 1609 feeds consistently on semi-automatic, medium-duty automatic and manual tensioning tools.
