I am the engineer who specifies this grade, and the 1912 is the strap I put forward when a buyer is considering replacing steel banding on industrial pallet cargo. It is a 19 mm × 1.2 mm PET strap at a rated 9,120 N break strength with 11%–14% elongation. The migration case is straightforward: PET delivers the breaking force needed for dense, heavy loads while eliminating the rust, the sharp edges and much of the freight and handling cost that come with steel. For factories packing heavy industrial goods, the 1912 gives most of the strength of steel without the steel penalties.

A migration is not a like-for-like swap of number-for-number, so these are the points I raise before a buyer commits:

• Joint method: steel is crimped or buckled; PET is heat-sealed or buckled. The seal is the critical point — the 1912 holds weld strength ≥85% of break strength.
• Tension setting: PET retains tension through elongation rather than relying on rigidity, so machine tension windows may be re-tuned. Low elongation keeps the binding tight.
• Tooling: the 1912 fits most common strapping equipment, so migration rarely requires new capital; hand tools are also supported.
• Weather and UV: PET is stable in normal warehouse and export conditions; where UV exposure is extreme, specify accordingly.

• No sharp edges — safe for bare-hand handling, unlike steel.
• No high-energy recoil on failure, which removes the most serious steel-banding injury risk.
• Light enough for single-operator handling, reducing fatigue on long shifts.
• Rust-free, so finished goods are not marked or stained in storage or transit.
